Erie area aquatics suffered a great loss on Thursday, December 29th with the passing of
Thomas Doyle
Tom was a major force in local swimming, diving and water polo programs having been active in every facet of these sports during his lifetime. His many contributions include coaching at Erie Swim Club, YMCA, Villa Maria Elementary, Villa Maria Academy, Cathedral Prep swimming and water polo, and Mercyhurst Prep swimming. He was the founder and meet director of the Super Girl/Super Boy swim meets, founder of the Erie County Aquatic Hall of Fame, and was a YMCA and PIAA swimming and diving official for many years rising to serve as President of District Ten swimming and diving officials until his retirement last season. Tom was the recipient of the prestigious Rose Morphy Memorial Award in 2010 in recognition of his many years of selfless contributions to area aquatics. Tom is survived by his wife Carol, and four sons, Will, Mike, Jim and Tom II.
